Mozilla is...
Netscape, Seamonkey and Firefox all have something in common.
Netscape, Seamonkey and Firefox are all developed by Mozilla. There are other lesser know software projects that share the code developed and maintianed by the Mozilla Foundation that supports Mozilla open source software. Some of the current projects are.
- Camino Mozilla's web browser for the Mac OS.
- Mozilla Sunbird™ is one of my favorites, a cross-platform stand alone calendar application, built upon Mozilla Toolkit.
- FireFox Moble, A small, simple, powerful, innovative, web browser for mobile devices like Android. Including FireFox sync for iPhone.
- And of course the, SeaMonkey Internet Suite
that includes a Web-browser, advanced e-mail, newsgroup and feed client, IRC chat, and HTML editing made simple -- all your Internet needs in one application.
- If you are interested, there are dozens of Mozilla projects in process.

Many of us remember when Mozilla and Netscape were spoken of in nearly synonymous terms because it was unclear what the relationship was between them. It should be sufficient to say that Netscape was built on Mozilla's open source code. Mozilla's open source code was and is used by many other software developers across the world. Dare I say, including Microsoft. And AOL snatched up the free Netscape browser for their own purposes. Which benefits no one but the king of internet commercialism abuse AOL.
The names of developers and the oganizations supporting the different software titles have changed over time to protect the guilty, but the core values and the unwavering commitment to the highest standard of excellence in software development has prevailed. And SeaMonkey
is the sum of its parts.

Though SeaMonkey is a complete Internet suite, FireFox and Thunderbird with the Lighting add-on is the most popular repacement for Internet Explorer and MS Outlook. Recent stats from the bytepowered.org website shows FireFox with 45% of users with Internet Explorer at 42% and 1% some version of MAC and 12% other, mostly Linux browsers. That is a big change from 2 years ago when Internet Explorer held over 50% of users. Since FireFox and Thunderbird are free open-source software, they are more than worth a try.
