Bytepowered Internet Guides Home Broadband FAQs

When deciding on a broadband provider, it is vital not to be taken in by the first offer you see. Many home broadband offers look like great money-savers on paper, but in reality, may not meet your specific needs. In order to find the broadband package that is right for you, we have put together some FAQs that will help you make the right choice.

What is the difference between Home Broadband and Business Broadband?

Besides the obvious fact that one is meant to service a household, whilst the other is tailored for offices, few people know the practical differences between the two services. The primary difference is that business broadband restricts the number of customers that have access to a particular server at a particular time. As a result, you are far less likely to encounter slow service at peak times the way you might with home broadband. Naturally, having more people on a particular server lowers the price, so home broadband is far less expensive than a business service would be.

Do I want line rental and/or Cable with my broadband service?

Many of the larger companies offer phone line rental and premium television channels with their broadband package. For households that already have one or both of these services, purchasing these various services as a single package could save you money, and has the added bonus of consolidating all services onto one bill.

And if you think that consolidation means compromise - think again. Sky is known primarily for its television service, but its home broadband offers one of the most reliable, speedy services currently available.

How much does my service need to be?

There are lots of deals out there giving you plenty of bandwidth - but they only make sense if you're going to use it. For a household with 4 or 5 users, it's wise to go for the bigger package, but for a single user that doesn't download or host websites, you will usually be fine with the minimum package offered. Most customers only use a small fraction of the bandwidth they are allotted - do not fall into that trap. The aforementioned Sky does an Unlimited Broadband package, ideal for the heavy internet user.
